"Hello, I’m Michael. I hold a doctorate in philosophy from the New School, where I studied the philosophical tradition (from Plato and Aristotle to Wittgenstein and Foucault), and its subject-areas (from logic and metaphysics to ethics and political thought). Since completing graduate school, I have maintained an active research profile, mainly focused on Hegel and his influence on 20th century social thought. I have presented this research both at conferences around the world, and in some of the top philosophy journals.
I have years of experience teaching philosophy to students of all levels at the New School, St. Francis College, and Pace University. I have lectured to auditoriums filled with beginners and I’ve managed small seminars of advanced students. But I have most enjoyed mentoring students individually, familiarizing them with the “canon” and passing on some of my passion for the subject. My aim is always to make philosophy less intimidating and more approachable – even thrilling! – to students.
If you are struggling with philosophy for any reason, or if you are simply curious about it, don’t hesitate to contact me. I work with students to make even the most obscure topics manageable and interesting. You can expect “customized” lessons, tailored to your background, interests, and educational level, to ensure a great experience in philosophy.
Finally, if you are anxious about outlining and writing term papers, I will be happy to guide you through all the steps involved. I understand this process well. I have published in some of the most selective academic philosophy journals. But more importantly, after reading and grading thousands of student exams and essays, I know exactly what is required to compose stellar writing assignments – the kind that receive A’s! – and will work with you until you’ve made it there.
Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about my services, or to schedule a lesson soon. I look forward to hearing from you!" less...
