"Hello! My name is Allison and I am so excited about the opportunity to help Denver middle and high school students develop their math skills. I have gained so much from tutors in my academic experience and I am thrilled at the prospect of providing that for others. I have previous experience tutoring informally and am always welcoming of input and suggestions from students and parents alike. I understand that reaching out for extra support, particularly in a subject like math, can be daunting. Because math builds so much upon itself throughout school, once you've hit a road block on a particular topic it can be challenging to get back on course. I think this is largely why math is so often students' least favorite subject. However, I am of the firm belief that math can be an enjoyable experience if you're willing to put the work in.
I bring a passion to math that makes me an exceptional tutor. I enjoy diving into complex and challenging problems and I especially enjoy helping a student with a topic they've been struggling with and seeing the concept "click"! I endeavor to help students get from question to answer with a full understanding of the mechanics of solving problems, rather than simple memorization or recall.
One of my greatest strengths as a tutor is compassion. I have had my struggles throughout my education and I fully respect whatever starting point you (or your child) is at right now. Academic achievement is not the only benchmark of success and, while grades are important, they do not define anyone. If you've been hitting your head against a wall because of your math homework, if you'd like to score higher on your next exam, or even if you're looking to get ahead in your courses, I'm here to help!" less...
