"Hey my name is Kinan! I'm a third year computer science (CS) PhD student. I have a master's degree in CS and a bachelor's in applied physics. I have experience tutoring before and during my grad studies. I have tutored community college students for a period of 4-6 months. These were one on one sessions, where I helped students at the community college learn concepts in algebra and calculus. During my grad studies, I was a teaching assistant (TA) for a full academic year. I taught freshman college students introductory CS fundamentals (e.g., OOP, data structures, for-loops, etc.) using the Java programming language. This was done in a classroom setting. I conducted all the lab sessions and graded projects and final projects.
My tutoring approach mainly revolves around being supportive and kind, with a focus on teaching the student to be self-sufficient. Giving them the confidence and tool set to solve any problem that they may encounter in the course or topic they're learning. For freshman college students, I showed them how to debug issues on their own. What to google, and how to parse error and exception messages in Java. For the community college students, I always urged them to try as hard as they can to solve the problems that they're stuck on by themselves, and even if they've come up with a solution to think about why it is right.
As I've taken a number of programming courses in college, I am able to teach programming languages such as Java, C++, and python. I am also able to teach concepts in Algebra, Calculus, and Introductory Physics. If you would like help learning any of the above, don't hesitate to contact me. I am quick to respond. I am also always open for feedback as I care deeply about my students and want to become a better teacher/tutor!" less...
