"Hello, I’m David! I am a Human Geography PhD Candidate at the University of Colorado Boulder. As a Fulbright Fellow last year, I conducted seventeen months of ethnographic research for my dissertation in Bandung, Java, Indonesia. Prior to beginning my PhD program, I received my Master’s in Human Geography from the University of Oregon and my Bachelor’s in International Studies from American University with specializations in environmental sustainability and development.

My interdisciplinary social science background, publishing history, and teaching expertise over seven years in graduate school have prepared me well to help students achieve their goals—whether mastering classroom topics, developing essays, writing personal statements for college, graduate school, scholarships or academic awards. I have a proven track record of effectively and convincingly writing school applications, academic essays and journal articles, and funding proposals. To fund my research and studies, I have received a Boren Scholarship to study abroad in China, a Fulbright U.S. Student Research Award to conduct my doctoral research, and two Foreign Area and Language Studies (FLAS) Summer Fellowships to fund intensive language studies, one in Beijing, China and another in Bandung, Indonesia.

I have seven years of teaching and tutoring college students in different class formats, subjects, and levels of specialization. Over the years, I have developed my pedagogical approach to give shape to a collaborative and active classroom that helps students improve their writing, reading, critical thinking, and public speaking skills no matter the field they are pursuing.
