"My name is Ally! I am a current math teacher who teaches predominately Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. I graduated from Illinois State University in 2015 with an Education degree and am endorsed in all fields of study. I am also currently working on a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins in Digital Age Learning and Educational Technology. I truly began to enjoy math and math theory during my time in college, which led me to my career focus in mathematics education. My approach is to work with students on the rationale behind why math works and how the concepts build upon each other.

I believe that one on one instruction and making decisions based on data are extremely important when it comes to students. Therefor, I find it essential to progress monitor and formatively assess throughout our time together to show the students their successes and where there is room for growth. I use this formative data to help drive my direct instruction and practice for each student. Above all, I know the importance of creating relationships and work to form bonds with each and every student to help them reach their goals.

This is my 8th year as a classroom teacher for 6-9th grade mathematics, accelerated mathematics, and advanced mathematics curriculum. This includes pre-algebra, algebra 1, and geometry concepts. I also work with math intervention students, creating and differentiating lessons to fit needs of specific students. I have been a part of the math committee that was designed to pilot and choose a new math curriculum for the district and am very familiar with the common core methods taught by different resources. For the first 6 years of my teaching career, I also taught 8th grade language arts as well.
