"Hi there, my name is Madelyn! I’m so glad you found my tutoring profile. Here’s a little bit about me: I’ve been working with middle school students for six years, including four years teaching 6th Grade Social Studies with a focus on World Geography. Before that, I taught U.S. History to 8th grade students. For the past two years, I’ve also taught an Argumentative Writing course, where I help students build strong, evidence-based arguments and write clear, organized five-paragraph essays. In this class, I emphasize conducting academic research and using evidence effectively to support a claim.

Across all my classes, I work with students in whole-group settings (~20 students), small groups (2–4 students), and one-on-one, depending on individual needs. My approach to both teaching and tutoring begins with getting to know my students and understanding their goals. From there, we create a personalized plan to help them achieve success.

My educational background is in the social sciences: I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Communication from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree in Secondary Education. I am a certified History/Social Studies teacher for grades 4–12. While most of my classroom experience is with grades 6–8, I’m passionate about supporting learners of all ages and helping them overcome academic challenges.
