"Hello! I earned my Master's in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland in 2025 with a 4.0 GPA and excellent performance reviews from the undergraduate students I taught there. My background is rich and multidisciplinary: in undergraduate, I studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with minors in Mathematics and Spanish. I have several published papers in peer-reviewed research journals, most of which involved collaboration with people far outside my subject area. From this experience, I learned how to explain concepts to those with far less background knowledge than myself. I have tutoring experience in biology and chemistry and love helping students meet their goals. Currently, my daytime job is a math and science teacher at an online high school.
My approach is based on the theory of constructive learning. Students learn best when they can connect new knowledge and skills to prior, well established abilities. I specialize in connecting new concepts to familiar ones through metaphor, pictures and sketches, and problem solving. I also highly prioritize my students being active participants in the learning process, so we will work through practice problems together, making sure to identify and address the parts that are causing difficulties.
If you choose to work with me, I will ask a day or two in advance of each session if you have a preferred topic to cover, such as something recently covered in a class. My preference is to work with material that you are learning in multiple contexts, so that you can best connect our progress with other areas of your life. When we have our session, we will start by discussing the topic and identifying the points that are causing issues. Based on this, I will pull from materials that I have curated to select sample problems for us to work through and talk through. Whenever appropriate, I will draw pictures and diagrams, etc. to illustrate and clarify. I will do my best to prepare you for success, whatever your next step is!" less...
