"A lifelong educator and learner with over 10 years of experience both inside and outside the classroom, I consider it an honor to be each one of my students' educational journey and learning success. My certifications include 4-8 core subjects (math, science, language arts, social studies), special education, and English as a second language. My teaching specialties, areas that I have the most experience in, are reading, writing, science and math. I have taught and tutored students from Pre-K to 8th grade. Most recently, I taught 8th grade science for 3 years at a public school in Austin, and I currently work to develop curriculum for energy science.
Each student is unique and learns in a way that makes sense to them. I believe that my job as a tutor is to teach well by explaining concepts in ways that are understandable and accessible to them, boost their confidence by building on learned skills and celebrating success, and challenge students to achieve their goals one step at a time.
I always maintain positive relationships with guardians and parents of students, as the more backup and support a student has from all sides, the better! Every lesson begins with a goal and ends with an action step to provide focus both during the tutoring session as well as after the session is completed. I also highly encourage students to collect data (such as test or score data over time; related to their learning goals). This helps identify student strengths and weaknesses, provide focuses for tutoring sessions, and helps me modify my instruction to better meet student needs.
As a teacher and tutor, the most common comments or feedback that I would hear from my students were forms of the following: "This is the first time I've enjoyed learning [subject matter]. You explain it in a way that is easy for me to understand and isn't confusing. You are patient and kind."
I will respond quickly to any inquires. I look forward to meeting you soon!" less...
