"I earned my B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan, and since then I’ve built my career around education in a variety of roles. I started out teaching fourth grade with Teach For America in rural Idaho, later worked as a special education teacher in Chicago Public Schools, and served with City Year in Boston supporting math instruction for fifth graders. More recently, I’ve worked one-on-one as a private writing tutor for high school students, helping them with everything from history essays to personal statements for college. Having taught in both large classrooms and individualized settings, I’ve learned how to meet students where they are and adjust my approach depending on their needs and goals.

When I tutor, I try to strike the right balance between guidance and independence. I like to break things down into clear, manageable steps, and then give students the space to take ownership of the work as their confidence grows. With writing especially, I focus on clarity, structure, and helping students find their own voice rather than just telling them what to say. In the classroom, I’ve relied on routines and positive reinforcement to keep students engaged, and in one-on-one sessions I’ve found that encouragement and honest, constructive feedback go a long way.
