"Thanks for considering me as your ACT tutor! I'm a graduate of the University of Chicago, where I majored in English and was named to the Dean's List. I have worked with dozens of students over the years, ranging in age from the elementary to college level. I currently focus on helping students prepare for the ACT. I know the test well and I meet each student where they are academically, with an eye to helping them reach their goals for the test and beyond.

Beginning with our first meeting, I make a sincere effort to find my students' academic interests and incorporate them into our work preparing for the ACT. I'll demonstrate how to approach the test in manageable chunks, building confidence and ability at the same time. As students progress, material that began seeming difficult will become more familiar and approachable. As a tutor I'm constantly refining my approach based on student and parent feedback. Since one-on-one tutoring is all about getting the individual attention that students need to learn, I'm always open to questions that will help clarify concepts we're working on.

I know that studying for a standardized test may feel intimidating, and that many students struggle with test anxiety. I'll work with students on building content knowledge that increases confidence, as well as strategies to help relax and give your best effort on test day.

Understanding the ACT Mathematics section means knowing the fundamental math content of the five major areas that are being tested: algebra and functions, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and probability, and number theory. I'll walk you through each one, reviewing concepts that students already know and demonstrating any that they don't, until they're comfortable with any question that might appear on the test.
