I recognize that some students are handicapped when their learning style does not match the style of their teacher; so I adapt. I believe that understanding the "why" and "when" is perhaps more important than the "how".

I have graduate degrees in Systems Management, Business Administration, and Industrial Engineering. I am a Six Sigma Black Belt, a Professional Engineer, and a Certified Supply Chain Analyst. I have received two Outstanding Instructor awards for throwing away the standard material and substituting better examples presented in a logical manner.

I insert some "tidbit" of non-academic material into every tutoring session. For elementary students, I often teach them finger multiplication. For middle school students, I often show them how to multiply without using the multiplication tables.
