"I am a driven and hard-working tutor hoping to foster a career in education. I graduated magna cum laude from Duke University in 2024, with a BS in computer science and a BA in English. "I am a driven and hard-working tutor hoping to foster a career in education. I graduated magna cum laude from Duke University in 2024, with a BS in computer science and a BA in English. I have always been interested in a wide variety of subjects and have taken classes -- and am comfortable teaching -- at an advanced level in mathematics, statistics, and philosophy, in addition to my two majors.
I began my journey towards a career in academia last year as an English Teaching Assistant at a high school in France. I created lessons and worked with four professors to help make learning English more fun and accessible for the students. My students' ages ranged from 15-18 and I typically worked with a full class of around 20 of them at a time, but I also frequently worked with smaller breakout groups and occasionally one-on-one with certain students. My priority was to bring a cultural component into every one of my lessons so that my students would feel the excitement and understand the why behind learning a second language. I hope to continue doing such teaching in the future.
In addition to my formal classroom experience, I have been a private tutor for the past 5 years. My main areas of expertise have been computer science (algorithms and data structures, computer systems, machine learning, etc.), mathematics (calculus, linear algebra, etc.), and statistics (probability, Bayesian statistics). I likewise have extensive experience helping students with college essays and the ACT/SAT. I scored a perfect 36 on the ACT and a near-perfect 1570 on the SAT, and with my English degree and experience at a top university I can confidently say that I know what elite college professors want out of their students, and what elite college admissions counselors want out of their applicants. I love teaching new students, getting to know them, and watching their abilities grow, and I hope to do the same with you or your child!" less...
