"I am currently a sophomore at Duke University, majoring in English and minoring in Japanese. Growing up in Manhattan as the oldest of five children, I became a tutor early on, helping my younger siblings with schoolwork and developing a deep interest in teaching. Over the past eight years, I have worked with students ranging from kindergarten through high school through peer tutoring, freelance sessions, and volunteer programs.
I have the most experience tutoring elementary school students in English and math. For three summers, I worked at the JCC, helping students reach grade-level proficiency through individualized support based on the JCC curriculum. I also have additional experience with peer tutoring and essay support in high school.
I earned multiple English awards in high school, including an Individual Writing Award for creative writing and the English Department Award for seniors. I also scored a 5 on both the AP Literature and AP Language exams and a 36 on the ACT English and Reading sections. One of my most rewarding experiences was tutoring a six-year-old immigrant to speak English comfortably and confidently by the end of our summer together. I also have extensive experience working with children with ADHD and have developed strategies to keep them engaged, organized, and motivated during lessons.
My tutoring approach is patient, structured, and encouraging. I focus on identifying each student’s learning style and adapting my teaching methods to meet them where they are. My main goal for students is to provide academic help, treat the root of their problems, and ultimately build their confidence in learning." less...
