"I love teaching children to read and write, and I teach joyfully! Students with dyslexia have to work extra hard to become literate. Even though it's hard work, they enjoy their lessons because I teach with compassion and a positive, encouraging attitude. I also enjoy giving parents the tools and skills they need to help their children succeed.

Even though it's hard work, they enjoy their lessons because I teach with compassion and a positive, encouraging attitude. I also enjoy giving parents the tools and skills they need to help their children succeed.
I started my teaching career with a BA from San Diego State University and teaching certification through San Jose State University. I have worked as an elementary school teacher in public school and preschool teacher in a private preschool. I homeschooled my own children for 9 years. I have a recent homeschool graduate and a high schooler. My own children struggle with learning difficulties, so I became patient and skilled at working with struggling students.
I combined my love for teaching reading and skills at working with struggling learners. I obtained introductory and advanced training in teaching students with dyslexia in the Orton Gillingham method through the Rawson Saunders Institute in Austin, Texas. I also completed a practicum and became a Certified Academic Language Practitioner through the Academic Language Therapy Association.
I use the Basic Language Skills Curriculum which includes reading, writing, and spelling instruction for dyslexic children. I work virtually with anyone in the US and locally at the Round Rock library or neighborhoods close by. Students are required to see me a minimum of 3 days a week. 4 is ideal for faster progress. We do take a spring break, a Christmas break, a Thanksgiving break, and a few holidays off here and there during the school year. We do work during the summer with a more flexible schedule. A beginning reader who works with me from the beginning of the curriculum to the end can expect to finish in approximately 2.5-4 years depending on the severity of the dyslexia and how consistent attendance is. Consistent attendance is required.
I look forward to speaking with you!" less...
