"My name is Lakia. I am entering my 20th year as an educator. I am currently an ELA Instructional Coach for teachers in grades PreK-2nd. I have taught kindergarten and first grade. I was also a reading interventionist for students in grades 2-5. In this position, I instructed students in small groups on comprehension skills. Following that, I was a Reading Recovery teacher. I provided individual instruction to the bottom 20% of first graders in a low-income school. I specialize in teaching children how to read. I taught all three of my children how to read by the age of four. Moreover, I conducted a series of lessons to prepare my son for early entry to kindergarten in Maryland.

I hold the following certifications: Early Childhood PreK-3 teacher’s license, Special Education certificate, Reading Recovery certificate, LETRS 1 and 2 trained, and Science of Reading trained. I am a highly effective educator, who has won various awards over the last ten years. I am well versed in the current phonics research on phonemic awareness and phonics. I have tutored both in my home and before and after school for the last five years. I enjoy working with children and delight in getting to know them and seeing them grow academically.
