"I am a scientist, educator, and life-long learner. I have two years' experience teaching high school students from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. As a teacher I provide my students with thought-provoking lessons that engage their critical thinking skills. Fundamental to my teaching philosophy is the belief that all students can learn and achieve their academic goals. Because there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach, I learn my students needs and create lessons and study material that help engage their unique learning style.

Before teaching professionally, I taught college-level biology labs and have been in molecular biology research since I was in high school. I enjoy helping students realize their academic potential. I love it when a student learns an interesting fact in science says, "That's really cool!" My favorite response from a student who didn't think they could do it is, "Wow, that was easier than I thought."

I taught secondary science including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. My graduate studies and professional research experience have provided me with a strong background in college-level biological sciences with emphasis on biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology, and microbiology. I am experienced at reviewing primary literature, designing experiments, and scientific communication.

My students had a high passing rate in the Texas Biology STAAR. I taught my students test-taking strategies to eliminate incorrect answers and identify possible correct answers based on information presented in the question. Test-taking strategies also include the use of close-reading annotations that help students identify key words and concepts that activate their memory and help them identify correct answer choices.
