"I have 30 years of teaching in the classroom, the last 20 years at the high school level, teaching both English and history. I am effective in helping students craft their college admissions essays in particular; in some cases students have received feedback from admissions officers about the high quality of their essays. I also have years of experience helping students discover the joy of writing in general. I can help students with organization and show them how to brainstorm, proofread, develop voice and style, and tackle larger thematic questions. Literature is also a passion of mine and I love to engage students in conversation. The most effective teachers I had related the material to our experiences, and I strive to do the same. I love connecting with students through humor and storytelling. When students are comfortable with me, they are able to connect better to the material. I can help students understand how to analyze text, character development, recognize literary elements and improve reading comprehension.

I also have years of experience teaching history. I aim to help students to understand the events of history, the cause and effect of those events and how those events still effect us today. I use biography to help make events of the past more relatable and more engaging.

In general my style is enthusiastic and supportive. I especially enjoy working with students who struggle in reading and writing.
