"My name is Laurie, and I have been an elementary teacher for 19 years. I currently teach self-contained Special Education. My primary focus as a teacher is making sure my students gain independence and confidence in and out of the classroom. I want to make sure that they know that they can achieve anything the want as long as they are willing to work for it, and ask for support if needed.

I have always loved reading and writing, and taught myself to read at the age of 4. I was an only child at the time, and used to "teach" to all of my stuffed animals. I would write vocabulary words on my chalkboard, and even had a smiley/sad face box for students who did/did not listen lol.
