"Prior to teaching, I spent my college years working at daycares to get experience with children. I received my B.S. in Sociology and my M.Ed. in Early/Elementary Education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006 and became certified to teach Pre-K through 6th grade. I later went back to school at Regent University and received a M.Ed. in Leadership in Mathematics in 2019.

In 2006 I began teaching at Richmond City Public Schools where I taught for 8 years, switching between 4th and 5th grade. I then taught in Henrico County as a classroom teacher for 8 years, also switching between 4th and 5th grade. In 2022 I decided to use my Math Specialist degree and I obtained a job at Richmond City Public Schools as a Math Interventionist and I have been teacher here since. During my 19 years of teaching I have also done some private tutoring for friend's children and other children referred to me by others. I have tutored 1st through 6th grade students in both reading and math.

I approach my tutoring and teaching in the same way, with encouragement and praise. I remind my students of the power of "yet". They may not understand it "yet" but they will. It just takes time. During reading instruction I like to read and break down text to ensure understanding. During math instruction I like to use manipulatives whenever possible to aid in understanding.
