"Hey hey. My name is Ms. Andrews! I was born & raised in Newark, NJ. I went to Newark Public Schools from K-12, and math was always my favorite subject! Upon graduating high school, I went to The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ, where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education and iSTEM, with a Specialization in Mathematics. I have an Elementary School, K-6 Teaching Certification, as well as a Math Specialization Certification for grades 5-8. After college, I joined Teach For America New Jersey, where I primarily worked with elementary school students for a summer. Afterwards, I went on to become a Founding Teacher at North Star Academy, Central Ave Middle School in Newark, NJ. I worked there as a 5th grade math teacher for 7 years!

I left the school system at the end of the 2021-2022 school year to start my own tutoring business, Scarlet's Scholars, because I realized that there was an enormous amount of scholars who needed one-on-one support, especially in math, and especially after the learning loss from Covid-19. I have a passion for teaching math and a desire to help scholars build their confidence in math overall. I like to include colorful visuals, visualization strategies, models and music in my lessons. Being able to show and explain your work is critical to me, so I'm a big fan of explanations, labels, showing step by step work, and having students check their work. I teach and tutor using the Common Core Standards. I believe learning should be fun, and it is my job to teach the student in a way that they will learn and grasp the concept. There's not just one way to answer a math problem, so I believe there's always a different way to teach a topic that will lead to the scholar's success.
