"Hi my name is Melissa! I’m a 25 year educator skilled with lots of experience in tutoring/teaching math and science. I currently teach 5th grade in Saline Schools. During the school year, I enjoy tutoring after school and during summer vacation, I’m available M-F (8 am-6 pm).

My tutor sessions are an hour and are offered at the Saline, Ann Arbor, and Ypsilanti District Libriaries. I find having access to the library and all it’s resources, makes it a perfect place to meet:)

During our first session, I need to meet the parents then access the needs of the child. My approach is child-centered using a life coaching model. This allows me to help children build self esteem, set positive goals and deal with different issues such as bullying, and anxiety in a safe environment while teaching and learning math.

Your child can expect a kind, funny and compassionate teacher/coach skilled in a growth mindset belief that intelligence can be developed. Children with a growth mindset understand they can get smarter through hard work, and the use of effective strategies. It is contrasted with a fixed mindset: the belief that intelligence is a fixed trait that is set in stone at birth.

I want to assist your child in developing a strong positive self-concept so they see school as an exciting place to grow, embrace challenges, and even failures as opportunities to grow!

I earned a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University - certified to teach K-8 math, and science. I have taught elementary school for 15 years.

I also hold a Masters Degree in K-12 School Guidance Counseling from Siena Heights University- 6 years experience counseling grades 1-4, and 4 years experience counseling grades 7-8.
