"Hello! My name is Zoe and I have always had a passion for working with children. For the past six years, I have worked as a teacher in Hyattsville, Maryland with Prince George's County Public Schools. In 2016-2017, I taught third grade and from 2017-2021, I taught second grade. I am now currently an ESOL teacher for second and third grade students.

I supplement my teaching career with tutoring. I have also tutored students beforehand and done after school programs to strengthen student's learning. I am very familiar with common core standards and certain strategies used to teach all of the subjects. For six years in a row, I have taught all of the subjects and now I specialize in elementary reading and writing skills. I truly believe in the importance of hands on learning for kids, where they are able to do projects and really own their own knowledge. I am currently also obtaining my National Board Certification and recently became certified to teach English as a Second Language through the University of Maryland.

I believe that the purpose of education is to help students become more inquisitive and knowledgeable about the world around them. Learning is important because students need to learn specific topics that they can apply outside of the classroom. I believe it’s important to teach students to be thinkers and take pride in being an educated member of society. Learning new things should be something that students want to do naturally. In discussing the purpose of education, I think that my purpose as an educator is to facilitate this learning process for students. I have never felt that teaching should be centered around the teacher, but is more so about how students can be masters of their own learning. What can students gain from their own exploration and my facilitation? I hope to work with students so that they can define the answer to this question!" less...
