"I consider writing to be the very core of my existence and it’s what led to me to study English at UCLA, to publish extensive research papers, and to apply for—and be accepted into —their selective Creating Writing Concentration. This has further inspired what has always been the ultimate goal: to publish a book of my own. I am extremely passionate about literature, and it directly translates to my work with students.
In high school, I volunteered as a tutor for Short Elementary School in San Rafael and taught students how to read. This solidified a passion for teaching and passing on my love of the subject. I received 5s on the following AP exams: English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, and U.S. History. I believe that my writing ability and passion for the subjects helped me excel in the courses and on the exams. In college, I went on to become the President of a women's leadership and community service organization where I served as a tutor in the Los Angeles Unified School District, teaching students of all ages in classrooms across LA.
After receiving my degree, I relocated from California to Paris to work as an au pair and write in my spare time. I helped the children with their homework and worked with them to improve their English language skills. With no prior knowledge of the French language, I had to adapt quickly to cultural differences and throw myself into conversations and environments that were new and unfamiliar. I have experience working with kids and tailoring my methods to meet their individual emotional and educational needs. I believe that my flexibility and experience working in high-pressure, ever-changing environments of all kinds has equipped me with the skills needed for this position." less...
