"Hello! I'm JaJuan, a senior mathematics major at Shippensburg University, specializing in statistics with minors in data science and Spanish. My tutoring journey began as the President of my high school's Help Desk, guiding students in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. In college, as Vice President of the Math Club, I expanded my tutoring to include Calculus 1, Statistics, Data Science 1, and more.
Graduating high school with a 4.27 GPA, my passion for teaching led me to pursue becoming a high school math teacher. For three years, I took education and math courses, shadowing local high school teachers. Because I especially enjoy undergraduate-level courses, I shifted to a statistics concentration to prepare for a graduate-level degree.
During this transition, I engaged in research at Shippensburg and other institutions. In the summer of 2023, I explored ML modeling for time-series analysis using R and Python, during a research program sponsored by the NSF and NSA at NC A&T. This experience motivated me to apply to graduate programs, and in the Fall I will begin graduate school with aspirations of becoming a college professor.
I believe math shouldn't be confusing. My three-step tutoring approach involves demonstration, collaboration, and student-led learning. I explain processes step-by-step, connect concepts, collaborate to identify and resolve confusion, and empower students to take the lead for independent thinking and problem-solving. I believe learning starts when an environment is created that encourages curiosity and does not condemn failure, which is what I aim to do in every session and with every student.
Tutoring is my way of investing in others and fostering an appreciation for mathematics and education. If you think I could be a good fit, please reach out—I'm here to help!" less...
