"My name is Yemi and I earned a B.S. and M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and Stanford University, respectively. I am a published researcher and I have worked in labs at Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, and Johns Hopkins University working on computational approaches in engineering and biology.
In parallel with my research, I have extensive teaching and mentoring experience. I have served as a teaching assistant for multiple undergraduate- and graduate-level materials science courses, developed Python-based instructional notebooks, delivered lectures to graduate students, and helped design interactive learning modules as part of a curriculum transformation initiative at Stanford. I enjoy breaking down complex concepts into clear, intuitive explanations and tailoring my teaching style to each student’s learning goals, whether that means building foundational understanding, preparing for exams, or developing confidence with problem-solving and coding. I believe effective tutoring is about empowerment: helping students not only find the right answers, but understand why those answers make sense.
Outside of academics, I value creativity, movement, and time outdoors. I enjoy writing and reading poetry as a way to reflect and recharge, and I’ve played soccer for most of my life. I also love hiking and camping, especially as a way to unplug and stay grounded.
As a tutor, I aim to lead with curiosity, patience, and an appreciation for balance, growth, and lifelong learning. I strive to leave a positive impression on the students I work with and teach course material in a way that is approachable and engaging.
