I specialize in three disciplines: English as a second/foreign language (ESL/EFL), Writing (especially creative writing), and beginner Japanese.

I have a BA in English and Japanese and a Certificate in Editing from the University of Washington, Seattle. I have ten years of experience teaching and tutoring, including three years of classroom teaching English to elementary and middle school students in northern Japan! I also spent nearly four years tutoring middle and high school students as a premium tutor for Applerouth Tutoring Services, and I tutored college writing and ESL as a freelance tutor for over two years. I have been writing my whole life, and I've earned various awards for my poetry and flash fiction over the last several years. I am an English native speaker, conversationally fluent in Japanese, and a lifelong language nerd. My teaching philosophy is simple: learning should be both fun and practical, no matter your age! With me, students will learn what they need to and accomplish their goals while having fun along the way. I tailor my lessons to the student's level! As such, I pride myself in making my own study materials just as often as using the appropriate published resources and books. I know from personal experience that self-study can be difficult, and that having an outside source of motivation can be extremely useful; I can be that source of structure and motivation for you - or we can take it easy and slow down to master the basics.
