"I am Nica, and I studied Physics as an undergraduate and graduate student. During graduate studies, I was also a teaching assistant (~3 years; recipient of Excellence in Teaching awards) handling introductory physics labs and workshops/tutoring on campus while doing research.

In the past, I happened to tutor a couple of high school students on math and during my graduate studies, I happened to be in a workshop/tutoring on campus helping college students in their homeworks, lab reports and on other questions they have related to physics classes.

As a teacher and tutor, my goals are to help and guide students to have a better understanding of the subject matter, and also to ensure they enjoy the process, being patient and kind with themselves while also celebrating wins and staying curious. My hope is that my students become more confident, independent, optimistic and gracious to themselves and others and experience fun in learning.

As for specifics, I will ask students about the (1) curriculum or scope of the subject they would like to be tutored on, (2) what are the questions they have, especially on homeworks, problem sets, lab report writing, and others. From here, we will start with solving the problem together, and from there build their confidence by giving them variants of the problems to achieve mastery. I am also happy to adjust and tutor in a way that suits a specific student best as effective approaches can differ from person to person.
