"Learning is a very personal experience, and I feel that it is best to tailor my tutoring style to fit the student's needs. That said, you really have to mesh well with your tutor, and I may not be the right fit for everyone. I know that there are many learning styles, and my own varies by subject. I also know that learning can be very frustrating; I found myself on more than on occasion feeling like the teacher wasn't answering the question I was trying to ask and I didn't know how to rephrase it. So, I try to listen and really ensure that I am answering the question they are really asking.
I began my tutoring career by tutoring friends in my university classes; I discovered that as much as it helped them it also helped me. Then I realized that I absolutely love tutoring. When I discovered that my university had a peer tutoring program, I put in an application and couldn't wait for an interview. At that point I was hired by my university to tutor Organic Chemistry and Physics. There is truly nothing better than doing what I love and seeing the mental light bulb turning on. I have spent approximately 3 years tutoring peers and 7 years tutoring professionally math and science courses.
Onto my background, I have most of a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, with an emphasis on Organic, that I would some day like to complete. With that degree plan, I have had to take basic Chemistry and Biology classes, of which I tested out of via AP tests. I have taken multiple Organic Chemistry courses, as well as Analytical and Physical Chemistries. Naturally, I have also enjoyed classes in Physics, both Algebra and Calculus based. Lastly, I had the pleasure of taking Calculus 1 all the way through Calculus 3. I have also been fortunate to spend some time babysitting my friend's kids, and have had many teachable moments. I am very comfortable with high school courses all the way into college and beyond.
