"University of Houston B.A. in Philosophy/English (Double Major) 2014

Northwestern Law JD 2022

Human Situation Fellow (2015-2018): As part of the Human Situation Course (a "great works"/writing course required as part of UH's Honors curriculum), I held office hours weekly to help students improve their writing at all parts of the process. From interpreting a text/developing close-reading skills, to drafting and editing, I worked one-on-one with students to improve not only their papers, but their writing skills as well. This position included creating a curriculum for a smaller "cohort" of students who I met with bi-weekly to improve these skills over an extended period of time. Additionally, along with other tutors in the program, we hosted workshops to improve the student's understanding of a specific writing technique and to provide a practical example/activity to that end.

Debate Judge (2014-present): I have judged in the Houston/Texas high school debate circuit. I am familiar with LD/PF/Policy debate as well as most Interp. events.

Needless to say, I am quite familiar with different types of argumentative writing, and I have found that both of these positions have provided insights in the other.

Writing: I've worked with students at many different levels on academic papers and am aware of the types of hurdles and mental blocks that students tussle with when working on a paper. Whether it's a matter of structure, developing an appropriate thesis, or interpreting the text, I believe I'd be able to help a student at each of these levels.

LSAT Prep: I took around 40 practice LSATs and took the LSAT on three different occasions, ultimately scoring a 170. Furthermore, my experience tutoring students in logic as well as my experience deconstructing arguments as a debate judge and as a writing tutor has provided me with additional tools/heuristics to analyze arguments. Students will find these additional tools useful in quickly parsing LSAT questions and identifying the correct answer." less...
