"Hi, I’m Brandon! I have always been excited about reading and writing. When I was young, I read stories which filled my imagination, and books which taught me amazing new information. As I grew older, I wanted to write my own stories which would inspire others the way they had inspired me. This desire to write stories led me to teach a small group of creative writers when I was in college. That experience taught me how much fun it is to help someone else grow as a reader or writer. I knew at that moment that I wanted to be a tutor.

I have a Master’s Degree in Business Writing. I also have nearly ten years of experience teaching English to students with disabilities at the Middle and High School level. My favorite part about tutoring is learning what my students are struggling with, and helping them find ways to excel in that area. To me, this is what tutoring is all about! I learn so much, and my students do, too.

How do I find out what my students are struggling with? Well, first I find out what the student is learning in their classes, and what they want to work on. This will take place in a meeting with the student and their parent. Then, the student and I work through a lesson together. I check in with them about their classes, then teach them the lesson. During the lesson I give them time to practice with me, asking questions to make sure they understand what we’re learning. This practice together, and their answers to my questions, show me what they need extra help with, and I use it to plan our future lessons. With each session I will watch the student’s growth, get to know their strengths and needs better, and customize the sessions to their learning.
