"Hi, I'm Josh. I am a graduate from San Francisco State University where I earned my master's in biomedical science. Previously, I completed my undergraduate degrees in biological sciences and history from UC Davis. I completed my post-baccalaureate at UC Berkeley, and I was a former CIRM Scholar recipient and conducted the research for my masters at Stanford University School of Medicine in the department of cardiology at the Cardiovascular Institute. I've also held a position as a University Lecturer teaching biology labs at San Francisco State University. In my time in academia, as a researcher and educator, I've strived to make learning an enjoyable endeavor for all my students. I've had professors & teachers who've made a positive impact on my life, and others who might have had difficulty explaining their course material but in the end, it taught me that I want to do a better job for my students–avoiding the arduous experience that I had to go through when I was a student.
I have tutored students on and off since 2013, but officially made tutoring part of my career since 2017. I have tutored students of all age groups: elementary, middle school, and high school. My combined background of social and natural sciences make me confident in teaching a variety of subjects. I've also tutored college students in GE coursework. I am also a former peer advisor from UC Davis department of History, Economics, and East Asian Studies, and so am I open to giving advice to students who are interested in going to college, graduate school, or enter the workforce.
I believe my success as as tutor arises when my students no longer need me, but hopefully not forget me–when they can academically walk, run, and sprint without me. I truly believe in the words of the famous Greek philosopher Aristotle: "The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet."
I am here to encourage my students to trust in their abilities and to keep moving forward." less...
