"I am passionate about teaching. In 2018, urged by a friend, I decided to pursue a career in Special Education. I took the CBEST exam for prospective teachers in California and passed.

Seeing children whose talents and strengths are often overlooked by the world at large, and wishing to help them see and recognize those strengths, and bring them out for the world to see. This is where I feel my passion about helping underserved students drives my desire to help.

In my thirty-plus years in the workforce, I have encountered and worked with a racially and culturally diverse set of people. The volunteer and non-profit positions I have held have given me exposure to several disadvantaged and marginalized communities. Additionally, as a transgendered woman, I feel I have particular experience with marginalized people.

Through tutoring, I wish to help disadvantaged people grow, and help them to be the best people they can be. I love reading, writing, and the social sciences, and these fields are where I feel I can make a difference.

I spent much of my youth in special needs classes, due to having been diagnosed with Hyperactive-Attention Disorder. I have a unique understanding of the challenges facing children who are "on the spectrum," and I look forward to working with them.

In short, I would love to give back to a community with which I have much experience.
