"In the Fall of 2025, I will start work at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon, as an instructor of Anatomy and Physiology (BI 231). While working as an A&P tutor at LCC, I had received a lot of positive feedback from the students I was tutoring, and was encouraged to apply for an instructor position. I will start part-time and see how that goes.

In 2021, I moved with my family to the United States from Germany. In Germany I had worked for ten years as a dentist in a practice near Hamburg, Germany. But because my German license was not recognized in the US, I had to shift direction and decided to go back to school. It was then that I discovered my joy of tutoring.
In Germany, I took the education path one typically takes when they want to become a dentist. After the German equivalent of high school (Gymnasium), I got my equivalent of a DMD, and finished my PhD with magna cum laude.
One of the reasons I love tutoring is a selfish one. By helping students through their problems, I get to expand and deepen my own knowledge, which is very satisfying. At the same time, I love how social the profession is - there are many solitary professions out there, but this is not one of them.
As a tutor, you have to access where a student is at and lead them from there. Often my students will bring me topics they are struggling with in class and we will work gradually through the material together. I value "productive struggle" and allow my students time to work out the answer to a question I ask, shepherding them along the way. I think students of Anatomy and Physiology benefit greatly from drawing the part of the body they are learning about, as this deepens their understanding of the relationships between the different parts." less...
