"I recently moved into an administrative role after teaching middle school math for the last ten years. On average, my students are able to exceed growth expectations by around 15-20% on their Winter and Spring MAP tests, as well as typically exceeding growth by roughly 10% on their EOGs. As an adult who never quite outgrew his ADHD, I sympathize with students who typically struggle in school with this same issue. I always try to bring as much excitement and enthusiasm as possible for a subject notorious for how dull it can be!

I have never tutored directly from Wyzant, though I have tutored a handful of 9th graders from my neighborhood, as well as a seventh grader and sixth grader from my previous school. Typically, I like to introduce myself and use a shortened version of their grade's end of year test to assess their current skill level prior to moving forward. If the main issue is a single topic or unit, however, I will skip this initial assessment in favor of bringing an assessment geared towards those areas of need. I am also available to act as a homework coach for students who do well enough in class, but may need additional support to complete their assignments.
