"I'm Denise and I would love to work with you or your child! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in English and a Bachelor's degree in Education. I also received a Master's Degree in Education. I am a certified teacher for grades Pre K-12. For the past 30 years, I have been a classroom teacher and tutor. I have taught grades K-12 throughout my career, so I have experience working with students of various ages.

In my classroom, I always worked to make learning fun and engaging. I planned lessons that broke material down into ways that were easy for students to understand. Then I would teach the lessons using interesting, interactive methods. The students would always have some time to practice the skills, with my guidance, as needed. I have worked with small groups and with students one-on-one to provide extra reinforcement to target specific skills that students needed to practice at their own pace. I am a very nurturing educator with an approachable style. Because of this, students feel very comfortable and are excited to work with me.

I have been trained extensively in phonics and the science of reading. I can, therefore, work with students to explore sounds and figure out how words are built. Because I have a love of words myself, I bring extraordinary enthusiasm to teaching students about word parts and how they can make connections to read and understand. I have also had years of training in writing and spelling, as well. That being said, I am skilled at effectively assisting students to create well written, organized pieces of writing.
