"Dear students,
Hello! I'm a student at Manhattanville College who'd love to be your tutor. Some background is that I have been tutoring regularly since I was 11 years old, I have experience tutoring kids who struggle with traditional educational methods, love helping kids and teens, and have a passion for education. I graduated with a diploma from Scarsdale High School with a 3.9 GPA and tutored teens and kids in my gap year. I recently received A's in almost all my college classes. I had all As throughout high school and was on high honor roll. I graduated with near-perfect scores on all of my Regents exams. My high school awarded me a creative writing award in 11th and 12th grade too.
When I started tutoring regularly, it was due to being ahead of the curriculum. The teachers in school asked me to be a second teacher for the class. I'd also help other class sections, as well as tutor my family friends’ siblings, kids, etc. I recently helped teach and aid an autistic girl, resulting in her being able to speak when she was mute before. One kid I tutored was in withdrawal from risperidone for months, and now he is a student at a highly competitive high school. I tutored during the pandemic to kids in the BOCES program in New York and tutored students at Riverview High School, a school for troubled kids.
When I teach vocabulary, I take the word being taught like for example, "illiterate," and break the word down. The prefix "literate" from the Latin "literatura," means "written words" So illiterate means, "not able to read." This can be used to figure out the word literature too. When tutoring ADHD students, I connect the topic they are studying if they don't like the subject to something they do like. This makes studying effective. For example, for astronomy, I connected H2O in asteroids with steam trains due to the student liking trains. They passed their exam!
I hope we'll work together!
