"Hello! My name is Dana. I graduated from Central Methodist University (Fayette, MO) with a Bachelor of Music Education degree (K-12 Vocal & Instrumental Music). I started my Masters degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia (Columbia, MO) and obtained my Masters Degree in Music Education degree at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. In August of 2022, I will begin my 26th year of teaching. I have been teaching at my current school, Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School (MICDS) for the last 19 years. At MICDS I teach three choirs in addition to AP Music Theory.

My first year in college I thought that I knew everything there was to know about music theory. I had taken piano lessons for 13 years and have music theory experience as a result of those lessons. I was in for a huge surprise when I started the sequence of required theory courses. What I discovered was that music theory changed the way I listen to music, the way I perform music, and the way I appreciate music. I love talking the language of music theory and sharing my love of the subject with my students. And there's nothing better than seeing the light click on when a certain idea or concept finally clicks.

I have taught AP Music Theory for 26 years. I have attended the National AP Conference on two occasions, as well as the summer AP Workshops. I have experience working with AP Classroom, as well as a host of other resources that I use in my daily classroom teaching. I have years of classroom teaching experience, as well as experience working one-on-one with students. Each year the mean score of my students taking the AP Exam is consistently higher than the mean score in the State of Missouri as well as globally. Over the last 19 years, 88% of my students have earned a 3 or higher on the AP Exam.
