"Hello, I'm Jerry! I hold a B.S. and a Ph.D. in Biology. As an experienced college-level teacher and research biologist, I incorporate in my tutoring 4+ years of classroom-based and experiential mentoring experience, specializing in biological and environmental sciences. Through my work as an instructor, teaching assistant, and research mentor, I have developed a teaching philosophy that centers on making complex concepts accessible through inquiry-based learning and multi-modal content delivery. Rather than relying on rote memorization, I use thought-provoking case studies, audiovisual materials, interactive exercises, and real-world storytelling to help students grasp and synthesize ideas. I tailor my approach to individual learning styles, focusing on visual, auditory, and/or hands-on pathways based on student needs.

My teaching and mentorship experience spans multiple roles, including: teaching or assistant teaching for college-level Environmental Science, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Comparative Physiology, and Field Botany, with classroom and one-on-one instruction; science fair and classroom research project volunteering with high school and middle school students; and mentoring undergraduate students through one-on-one research supervision, providing both practical training and intellectual guidance.
