"Hello! My name is Caroline, and I’m a junior in college studying English and biology. I have a broad background in biology-related subjects, including genetics, anatomy, and development, and I’m very practiced in scientific writing and research. In English, I have significant experience with essay-writing and analysis in both fiction and non-fiction, as well as writing for journalism classes and student publications. I’ve worked mostly with high-school students outside of the classroom, but I’ve also spent time tutoring elementary-aged students, working on the concepts taught in the classroom as well as key skills for success like organization and time management.

My previous tutoring experience involved one-on-one meetings with students completing a months-long research project in a biological field, where I explored biological concepts with students as well as working on broader skills like data collection, organizing research, scientific writing, and presenting complex topics to an audience. I believe in focusing sessions on the content areas that students are struggling with the most, as well as looking at broader techniques that improve understanding, like research skills, organization, and analysis. In my experience, students have a much more thorough understanding of the content they are learning when they also understand how data is collected and analysis is performed in that subject’s field, as it gives the material a much more meaningful background. My focus in tutoring sessions is always based on where the student needs more support, and I focus lesson plans off of each student’s questions to make sure each session is as targeted and specific as possible.
