"Hello! I have been teaching for over 15 years in K-12 classrooms, adult education settings, and as a private tutor. I have degrees in Illustration, TESOL, and Reading. I particularly enjoy working with struggling readers and students with ADHD. Many students feel discouraged because of reading difficulties due to instruction that doesn't fit their needs and negative feedback due to behaviors that they can't control. I am certified Elementary Education, Reading, and ESOL in Florida. I am also certified in Connecticut, Virginia, and Ohio. I have experience teaching to Common Core standards.

I am also constantly reading the latest research in reading and ESL. I have taught in public and private schools in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Virginia, at Brown University's Intensive English Program, and have many years of ESL tutoring for ex-pat Japanese students in the New York city suburbs. I like my students to feel successful, yet do it in a fun, engaging way.

As an ESL teacher I have been involved in curriculum work in all content areas in grades K-12. I have adapted and modified mainstream curriculum to make it comprehensible to all students.

My reading degree and training in reading interventions, experience with students with teaching strategies for ADD/ADHD students, accepting teaching in spurts of time as well as teaching skills in executive function have made me able to reach students who have not yet been identified but are still in need of extra support.
