"Hi, I'm Jen! Creating a learning environment that is safe, relaxed, personalized and accomplishment-oriented provides the opportunity for those I tutor to succeed in mastering content and building a knowledge base that ensures continued learning while building learning skills. My approach to serving those I tutor includes accessing the individual's current level of achievement, identifying content gaps, preparing individualized paths to content mastery, and assisting with understanding learning styles, building learning skills and instilling confidence. With eight years of experience tutoring students from eighth grade to undergraduate college level, my approach has helped hundreds of students succeed in both their academic pursuits and their self-confident learning.
Since being selected to participate in the John Hopkins' Center for Talented Youth Advanced Mathematics program in elementary school, my own academic experiences have emphasized STEM content. Chosen to attend a high school Math and Science Specialty School; majoring in Chemistry and Orchestral Performance at the College of William and Mary; and completing a doctoral degree in Chemistry at Washington University in Saint Louis, I come to the tutoring sessions with a broad content background as well as experience in navigating the educational system. Currently working in the high-tech field of computer chip manufacturing, I am on the cutting edge of technology innovation utilizing the STEM content I learned on a daily basis. From basic knowledge of a broad spectrum of content to highly specialized and complex science, I am prepared to help students improve grades, increase test scores and reach academic goals." less...
