"I have completed 24 years of teaching chemistry in the classroom at the high school level in Florida (grades 9-12). I have taught all levels of chemistry including AP Chemistry and IB Chemistry which are taken for college credit. I have also taught physical science in the past. My bachelor's degree is in biochemistry and I have a masters with a concentration in molecular biology with practical experience working in the biotech industry. In college and graduate school, I did TA for subjects such as biochemistry, cell biology, and genetics. I also coach Science Olympiad at my school which incorporates many areas of science. I am certified to teach both biology and chemistry in the state of Florida. Before using Wyzant, my online teaching experience came mainly from 2020-2021 when many students were learning from home. In my 2 years of using Wyzant, I had students who came to tutoring regularly that passed the IB Chemistry and AP Chemistry exam.

Most of my tutoring experience outside of school has been students taking either high school level chemistry 1, AP Chemistry, or IB Chemistry. I have also tutored students taking college level chemistry at the local community college. When tutoring, I generally ask students in advance what topics they need help on. If they have material from their classes they need to focus on, I try to help them with that first. I also provide them with additional practice problems and worksheets if needed. Generally, my emphasis is on practicing the skills since chemistry has a lot of problem solving. If I have a more advanced student, then I will either help them get ahead on material or go over some higher level problems." less...
