"Hello!
I have a master's degree in chemistry, and I worked as a scientist for 10 years. When it comes to Sciences, I believe in teaching theories and applications simultaneously. While textbooks and in-class lessons introduce students to conceptual sciences, it is crucial that students could see how those concepts are implemented in the industry. I personally think a solid foundation with math and conceptual understanding would bring success in sciences.
I have accumulated both in-class and practical work experience. During my college years, I worked as a Math and Chemistry tutor for 3 years. I tutored Algebra 1 & 2, and General Chemistry (Chemistry 1 & 2) during my last 2 years as an undergraduate. I worked 1-on-1 with students (mostly college freshmen, and sophomores) in order to provide more efficient lessons, and personable learning environment. As a graduate student, I was a graduate assistant for Introduction Chemistry, who was in charge of instructing and supervising General Chemistry Laboratories. Majority of my students were college freshmen and sophomores. During this time, my teaching experience focused on groups since I was in charge of 30 students/class. In addition, as a graduate assistant, I have held study groups (5-6 students/session) outside of class time to help students excel in their classes. This experience has taught me to navigate around small/big groups with multiple students and different comprehension aptitudes.
After graduation, I shortly tutored Chemistry for high school students (1-on-1 tutoring). I have helped them improve their grades in classes. One of them brought her grade from D to A. joined the industry and took on different roles for the last 10 years, as a chemist, QA/QC manager, and a laboratory manager. My work experience will offer you some practical chemistry applications, which will help you understand the scope of chemistry being used, and hopefully motivate you to take more interest in chemistry careers." less...
