"Hello! My name's Katie! I graduated summa cum laude from Drexel University's nursing program, and have worked as a nurse for five years. While at Drexel, I tutored every nursing class. Prior to that, I tutored several classes in community college.
I completed a Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical program, where I took chemistry and physics. I have since worked as a chemistry teaching assistant at Temple University, and have tutored both chemistry and algebra-based physics. I scored in the 96th percentile on the MCAT, and will be attending medical school in the fall.
Here are some things students have said about me:
"Katie would thoroughly explain concepts that were hard to understand and made it very digestible. You could tell she truly cared that every student did well and understood the concepts that were taught in class."
"Katie was extremely effective in explaining and communicating the coursework, as well as preparing us for future coursework."
"Katie's class was a large help in understanding chem properly"
"Katie helped me to grasp the concepts of the lesson better. She worked through every problem we did piece by piece and had great explanations and analogies regarding the work. This step by step process allowed me to comprehend the material we learned in lecture to the fullest extent."
Cumulatively, I have 4-5 years of tutoring experience in a wide variety of subjects. I like to guide students' thinking using the Socratic method, and help them determine the answer, instead of giving it to them directly. I like using analogies and diagrams to help break down difficult concepts. I also have training in academic coaching and evidence-based learning strategies. While I like to think of myself as a good student, that hasn't always been the case, and I treat struggling students with empathy and kindness.
I'm an enthusiastic tutor and learner, and I'm excited to meet you!" less...
