"I have a PhD from Columbia University and have taught at the university level for over twenty years! I am passionate about student success and want to help students with the transition to college life. I have experience with this as an academic advisor and as a recruiter of high school students for universities.

The transition to college can be tricky. Colleges and universities are big, confusing and intimidating institutions. Students can quickly feel lost and find themselves frustrated which can lead to feeling anxious and impact their academic and social lives.

I work to limit our work together to 3 - 5 sessions to get students acquainted with universities and colleges in general and their school in particular. I help them map out the various units of the university, the offices, and the resources that are available to help them succeed. I walk students through common obstacles like the inability to gain access to a desired class, how to communicate with faculty and how to advocate for themselves. I share some of the common mishaps and pitfalls of the first few weeks of school academically and socially. Finally I make myself available for follow up sessions as the school term unfolds.
