"I go by Moe! In 2018, I graduated magna cum laude from CSU - Long Beach with BA degrees in English (Literature) and Comparative World Literature. In 2020, I graduated summa cum laude from CSU - Long Beach with my Masters in English. I have over two years of experience tutoring/teaching writing to folks of all majors and all writing styles/types of assignments. I presently work as a professional writing tutor at a local community college. Though most of my experience tutoring has been acquired in collegiate settings, I have tutored dual-enrolled high schools students, as well as the large community of ESL students at 2-year and 4-year universities. I’ve taught writing workshops for students at CSULB that were preparing for the university-wide mandatory writing placement exam.

As an equity-minded tutor, I want tutees to feel nurtured by expressing patience and utilizing active listening when a student is speaking, so that I may respond directly to their ideas, rather than only offering my own. Tutees need to feel heard and understood in order to believe that we want them to succeed. I can help tutees feel valued by asking them if I explained a concept sufficiently, or asking for their feedback about their overall tutoring experience. This gives students an opportunity to outline what does or does not work for them in a tutoring environment; this also serves as an opportunity for the student to practice their capacity for metacognition.
