"I'm Mike! I graduated cum laude with Bachelor's degrees in both English and philosophy, with a minor concentration in linguistics. I then went on to earn a Master's degree and then a Phd in philosophy. I'm now a professor at a university in Washington, DC. I was lucky to have many excellent and inspiring teachers in high school, college, and graduate school. I fell in love with teaching myself when I was a graduate student. My goal when teaching is always to help students cultivate skills that will be useful for them outside of academic study. In particular, I enjoy helping students become more skilled in reading, writing, discussion, and debate. I also try to make the material I teach accessible and fun.

I've been teaching since 2015. Most of my students have been college undergraduates, but I've also worked with junior high and high school students as part of the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth summer program. I've taught fifty-two college level courses. I've also been a teaching assistant for about two-dozen classes. I've taught classes on writing, philosophy, classics, religious studies, history, linguistics, and logic. I've worked very closely with individual students to help them succeed in my classes. Students' evaluation of my teaching has consistently been excellent and I can provide a portfolio of student comments about my teaching upon request.
