"Hi, I’m Lexi. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Mathematics 5-9. I also have a master’s in Education: Sports Leadership and Coaching. I have a permanent West Virginia Teaching License for Elementary Education and Mathematics 5-9. I have been an Elementary Title I Mathematics Interventionist for 9 years. I also have experience long term subbing at the middle school level before beginning my full time teaching career. Besides teaching I have been a summer day camp counselor for 15 summers.
The combination of working with children ages 3-13 in the summer, my mathematics education, and experience teaching math for 9 years provides me a unique expertise in teaching mathematics. I also have 9 years old experience tutoring students in grades K-9, with most frequently tutoring students in grades 3-5. My full time job as an interventionist is very similar to tutoring. I normally work with the lowest 25% of a class that do not qualify for special education. This intervention experience has allowed me to find multiple ways to teach the same topics to help different students understand in their own way.
All of these experiences teaching and using different teaching methods and techniques provides me a lot of experience to tutor students in mathematics. I got into teaching mathematics because I have always enjoyed working with kids and math was always my favorite subject. Teaching math combines two things I love, math and helping others. Being able to help students better understand math and truly enjoy it brings so much joy to my life. I look forward to being able to help more students with their mathematics skills in a broader reach than just my classroom and help more students find a love and confidence in their mathematics skills!" less...
