I can do elementary math, middle school math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra I. The material taught in those courses is 2nd nature to me, and I feel I can be of great value to those that are in need of help in those subjects/grade levels. Math was always my best and favorite subject!
I have a lot of experience in Math Education at the lower levels. Math truly builds on itself. Everything that the kids learn all the way back in 1st grade addition can affect what they are doing for years to come. The times tables will be too difficult if they don’t have strong addition. Division will be too hard if they don’t have a strong times table and subtraction. Fractions/decimals/percents will be too hard if you don’t have strong operations. And it just keeps going and going and going. I’m really good at diagnosing/assessing and getting to the root cause of the problems that the kids are having. You really have to fill the earliest learning gap that the child has, and build off of that.
Over the years, I’ve learned that the kids really need to think the problems through themselves, and I need to limit how much instruction I give (at times). I always start with explanations, but I will try to get the kids to work independently pretty quickly once I can see that they are grasping the material/concepts. Once the kids start gaining confidence in themselves, the sky is the limit!
If you think we are a great fit, please send me a message and we can go from there! Bear with me a bit on scheduling. It can be a bit of a pain depending on what everyone needs. I mostly try to have clients stick to a set schedule, and that keeps things pretty simple, but I realize that’s not always possible. I will do my best to accommodate everyone’s needs. Thank you and I hope to hear from you!" less...
