"I'm originally from the United Kingdom, and earned my PGCE in Primary education from Canterbury Christ Church University in 2008, following a BA(Hons) in Outdoor Education at Buckinghamshire New University in 2007.
Since then, I've worked for a diverse range of schools including: An international school in southeast Asia, public schools in and around London (both as a substitute, and as full-time faculty), a specialized school for Middle/High school students with mental health support needs in Vermont, and public schools here in Vermont, currently in my seventh year at my 5th/6th grade post.
I've worked in some capacity with students in all grades, but I am certified K-6. I have mentored student teachers and probationary teachers. I was part of a teaching team that won the Times Educational Supplement "Primary School of the year" and "Overall School of the Year" awards in 2013. I've also spent 20 years as a specialized activity instructor at a highly regarded residential summer camp.
I thrive on helping students understand that which they've previously found to be difficult or impossible. I have a track record of turning non-readers into readers, coaxing poetry out of resistant writers, and unlocking long-hidden math skills. I love investigating history, making sense of science, and demystifying geography. As a father of two young children, I have a perspective on education both as an educator and as a parent. Whether you're looking to supplement or enrich learning in elementary school, or perhaps fill in some gaps to be ready for middle school and beyond, I believe I can help." less...
